This is for those kiddos that are constantly disrupting instruction by seeking negative attention. Basically this plan is a way to correct the behavior in a discrete way without interrupting instruction. There is also a goal setting component and positive reinforcement for the student. This plan can also be put into a folder and taken home each day by the student. Great parent communication!
So basically how it works is...
I clip a rectangular piece of cardboard (or card stock) to my badge. On that piece of cardboard there are 3 foam squares a green, yellow, and a red. Each time the student is being disruptive a pull off a velcro square and move it to the back of the cardboard piece. Now the student knows there are only 2 chances left. If the student loses all of the velcro squares the student does not receive a star for that time period. The students day is chunked into reading, reading centers, writing, math, science, social studies. So for each subject the student starts over for the number of chances they get.
You can set goals with the student on the number of stars they get. You can also make tally marks on how many times the student lost a velcro square in that time period. You can also chunk the students day in half where if they meet their goal for the first half of the day then they get their reward and if they meet it for the second half of the day they get another reward.
I have found that the most beneficial thing to make this behavior plan work is that the student is motivated by the reward and the folder goes home everyday as a way to communicate with parents. I hope this helps!
