This has potential for being used 2 times of the year- ASB campaign/elections or in Government Unit when talking about Electing President/Congress. This is a complete package for differentiated instruction. Using the Basal story, I start the week with read aloud discussing and modeling reading strategies of focus and discussions about elections/campaigns. The Venn Diagram comparing characters is used first day or day 4 depending on time of year and pace of lessons. Second day I have my benchmark students partner read Basal story with my strategic students while I read aloud the Intervention Basal with Intensive/ ELL students. They then work with partners while I monitor for understanding the comprehension packs. Day 3 I had out leveled readers according to data and have them partner read ( most needy intensive kids still might need to have it read aloud in small group) and they again work in partners to go over similar questions in comprehension packs. Day 4 I usually provide feedback by leveled group on work they accomplished yesterday while other groups partner read and do Venn Diagram on their own.
Day 5 - assess/ debrief.
