November 2012--This product has been updated and improved!! In addition to all of the skills listed below, this workbook now covers more areas in language arts as seen on the state test and benchmark tests, including guide words, questioning skills, sentence correction, compare/contrast, and writing skills. Plus, cute Scrappin Doodles graphics have been added to make the workbook more student friendly!
This is a 22 page workbook to accompany the story "Officer Buckle and Gloria" by Peggy Rathmann. Skills covered include: author's purpose, context clues, consonant clusters, digraphs, compound words, punctuation and quotation marks, summarizing, syllables, multiple meaning words, fact/opinion, parts of speech, synonyms/antonyms, true/false, singular and plural nouns, homophones, verb tense, contractions, analogies, vocabulary, pronouns, proper nouns, making connections, subject/predicate, reference materials, main idea of a page, possessives, picture clues, sentence combining, correct word order in sentences, complete and incomplete sentences, drawing conclusions, sequencing, reality vs. fantasy, alternate endings, alphabetical order, spelling, grammar, soft and hard c and g, sentence types, vowel sounds, and cause and effect. This has been an invaluable tool in covering state standards and helping my students with comprehension and numerous language arts skills.
The page numbers referenced in this workbook correspond to the story in the Houghton Mifflin® Anthology "Delights" from their California Reading program. If you are using another version of "Officer Buckle and Gloria", this will still be useful to you, but you may have to modify a few things. If you like this product, check out my workbooks for other stories in the "Adventures" and "Delights" anthology books. Tell your 3rd and 4th grade teacher friends that I have workbooks for their stories too!
