Students can learn/review about weather, climate, seasons, time zones (including elapsed time - math overlap!) through this fun engaging activity!
You will need to have a Skype account and connect with other teachers or other people in other parts of the world - ask your students if they have relatives in other parts of the world.
Students will be given the time in their location and the mystery skype location will give their time. Teach students how to count by hours and write that down in book. Students listen to the person explain what the weather is like that day and general climate. If the person is in an opposite hemisphere, they will mention the opposite season you are experiencing which helps explain seasons. Students understand night/day if you skype somewhere farther away. Use earth and sun model to show night day. This activity helps visualize all these concepts. Youtube has great examples of how to use mystery skype.
There are only 2 pages in the book but you make multiple copies of the second page, depending on how many places you are skyping. :)
