this concept map (aka standard web, standard wall, curriculum wall, curriculum web) will focus on Ohio 5th grade Physical Science standards with Light and Sound only. This is to be hung for the entire duration of those standards.
Studies show that students learn best when they know what they need to know. Through the use of curriculum webs/walls, students can easily see not only what they need to know, but also the level of rigor that we are expecting from them.
This document is to be put up in place of 'I Can' statements to show students what the expectation for their learning is. I implemented these in my classroom this year to help my students (and myself!). I post-it note the topics as they are covered and we check mark the post-its as they should be mastered. Suzy Pepper Rollins did a training with my school and we created these to use based on her ideas in her book Learning in the Fast Lane.
