This physical science unit contains six comprehensive STEM lessons for matter and energy aligned to Ohio's Revised Science Standards (2010) grade 3, extension activities to consider for each lesson, and a post-assessment. Many of the activities are intended for multi-day instruction.
The hands-on activities include experiments and demonstrations about:
-- all objects are composed of matter
-- matter and it's observable properties
-- molecules are the tiniest form of matter
-- how heating and cooling may effect the state of matter
-- how matter and energy are related
-- how energy is the ability to cause motion or create change
Students are encouraged to integrate all disciplines (reading, writing, science, math) as part of STEM activities at the third grade level.
** June 8, 2015. This unit has been revised to include several suggested titles of fiction and non-fiction texts, as well as a post-assessment
