Challenge your 5th or 6th grade students to create their first slide show. This unit concentrates on the graphic design and construction of a slide show by letting students skip the research -- handouts will provide all the information they will need on the subject of Ohio Transportation of the 19th century. This unit gives students the choice of early roads, canals, steamboats or railroads. Students will also be challenged to narrate their slide show in an oral presentation, giving more detailed information on each slide. Also provided is a demonstration slide show, which the teacher can use to show students not only what a good slide show looks like, but also how to narrate it. Even if you don’t teach in Ohio, you can still use this unit to help your students experience their first creation of a slide show. The unit includes a 17-page PDF and 5-slide show in Keynote, Powerpoint and QuickTime Movie formats.
