This is an in-depth introduction to oil painting. This visual art lesson is a week and a half long focus on learning tips, techniques, and applications.

In my painting class, I never know who has experience and who doesn't with oil painting. Because of that, I start with the basics before jumping into a full oil painting project. This lesson pack includes a painting activity that has students test out different oil paint materials, such as linseed oil, galkyd, and varnish, and different application techniques.

After the sketchbook activity, the art students apply their understanding of oil paint basics to a mini painting of an object. They are challenged to paint the object twice, once using a brush, and once using a palette knife.

In addition to learning various techniques, the class also learns about important studio safety, in-progress critiques, and more.

All in all this pack includes:

➢Introduction to oil paint lesson plan (including big idea, essential questions, objectives, national standards, supply list, vocabulary and day to day how to)

➢Introduction to oil paint PowerPoint

➢Still life painting PowerPoint

➢Oil paint testers handout and instructions

➢Oil painting checklist rubric

➢Oil painting critique worksheet and instructions

This is everything you need to plan and introduce this assignment. It's perfect for grades 8th advanced to 12th and beyond.
