Vocabulary words: Introduce vocabulary before you read the story. Use to read and write the room. Have students write and draw in their journals.
Old Lady Puppet: Choose either the color or black and white version. Cut out the circle in the old lady’s stomach. Tape wax paper on the back of the picture. Glue the sides and bottom on a piece of construction paper, leaving the top part open to drop in the pictures of animals. Retell the story “feeding” the old lady the animals.
Emergent Reader: A simpler version for little ones to read.
Animal Size Sort: Use either the color or black and white version. Cut out the animals and glue on a sentence strip or piece of construction paper the animals in order from smallest to biggest or vice versa.
Animal color Pages: Depending on the level of your little learners, use the version with the color words in corresponding color or the words in black and white.
