DAY ONE: Students will watch/listen to the story on TumbleBooks-. (link is provided). Students will discuss story elements using header cards that include the definitions of the elements (characters, setting, problem, solution)
DAY TWO: Review of story elements. Introduction to story sequencing with mini-cards for relevant details from the story. Use a pocket chart to sort the story whole group and then re-tell it. Could be a great center afterwards! ;)
There are resources included to cover the six parts of the writing process: a thinking map for the pre-write, a draft sheet, a mini peer-editing rubric that you can attach to the draft, a mini-teacher checklist that you can use during your conference and a final copy that can be made into a small book using one sheet of construction paper and some glue.
The activities are aligned to the Common Core Standards, but could easily be adapted to other sets of standards.
