Olympic Measuring...Ready, Set, Go!
First, estimate how far. Next complete the event. Finally, measure how far with cubes, chains, or any non standard measuring object. Kids work in groups of 2-3 and are awarded medals for each event depending on how close they were to their estimate.
Are you ready to create an Olympic Event in your classroom?
This is such a fun, hands on, activity for your
students using non-standard measurement
for length. It requires very little preparation
with objects probably already in your class-
room. Other skills taught in mini unit
include: estimation, ordinal numbers, graphing,
sequencing and opinion writing.
To add to the fun, you might want to wear
your headband, wristbands, and play a little
Rocky music during the events.
