What an exciting way to channel your students' interest in the Winter or Summer Olympics into important mathematics practice!
In this activity the students will count collections of place value blocks and then color their answer with a corresponding color. It is like a color by numbers only using place value blocks and a 100s chart.
Place value is a very important concept for primary children to work on. Being able to relate numbers to corresponding images, such as place value blocks, will greatly help them with their addition and subtraction work, especially when they start working with two digit numbers.
This file contains three pages:
1) A blank 100s chart.
2) A page of place value blocks for the students to count.
3) An answer key showing the final image.
The final image your students will create is a burning Olympic torch!
This file is also available as an 11x17 file so that one sheet can contain both the place value clues and the 100s chart. Please visit my store to get that file as well see many other Math Mystery activities for various themes, seasons, & holidays.
For just $2.00 more you can get my complete bundle of Olympic Torch mystery pictures, which includes addition, place value, number locating, subtraction, and multiplication. This would be a great way to include multi-age and multi-ability classrooms. Everyone is working on the same image but solving problems at their level! Again it is available in my store.
Finally, I also have an Olympic Gold Medal Place Value Mystery Picture in my store too.
