Olympics: Informational Text - Reading with Nonfiction
This Olympics unit provides informational text about some of the sporting events in the summer Olympic games. This provides students an opportunity to think while reading informational text. There are 11 different sports covered and each sport package consists of:
•1-1 1/2 page(s) of informational text with accompanying video links and graphics
•questions on a literal, inferential, evaluative and opinion level
•a word study section that focuses on specific vocabulary, figurative and descriptive language, etc.
•extension activities to push thinking beyond the text
Everything is ready to go, no prep required. This unit works well before or after the Summer Olympics. It can stand alone as a Reading unit in the nonfiction area. Suggestions for implementation and differentiation are included. Perfect for students in the middle years. This unit is aligned with Common Core Standards.
