Simple Sentences Review - PowerPoint uses Animation to teach kids step by step how to find verbs and subjects.
***BE SURE to actually click through the PREVIEW SLIDESHOW in PowerPoint to see how it is ANIMATED. Just looking at the slides will not give you a very good idea of how this is set up.
I will spend 3-4 days on this:
1. PowerPoint Review & Game
2. Group/Team Sentence Writing, Independent Sentence Writing
3. Review & work with students on their sentences
The PowerPoint includes slides to review simple sentences, example sentences, and sentences to be used in the game.
As I go through the review slides and example sentences, I will have students label Subjects and Verbs, mark out infinitives and prepositional phrases, and add punctuation on their handout/notes.
Classroom Olympics GAME – I’m going to put students into teams. I’m going to give each student all of the sentences. I can project onto my white boards, so I will have each team take turns labeling and punctuating sentences on the white board. (You can have them do it on the paper.) One team will label and mark the first sentence on the board. Then everyone will check their own sheet as we go through the PowerPoint answers. How they did as a team on their sentence will determine which medal they get for that sentence. The next team will do the next sentence and so on.
I’m going to have them write their own sentences in their teams to earn “difficulty” points. Then I’m going to have them write sentences independently.
I will go over their sentences with them and review before they take the quiz.
I’m going to let them GRAPH the Medal Counts (See Link Below) and do Olympics WordSearches (COMING SOON – I have 2 made. I just have to get them uploaded) and have some activities from the websites on the Olympics Links (FREE!) for them to do as I go over sentences with individual students.
Finally, they will take the Quiz.
