Product Description
From Electric English...
This is a series of on-going research assignments that students work with and develop over the course of one complete quarter of the year. This particular piece is an example I have created to model for the students my expectations, and how to go about completing the work. [Note: These assignments are scaffolded in terms of complexity. Because this particular packet was the first time I introduced the concept of on-going research to my students, these initial assignments are more simplistic in their demands, but as the research continues, not only over the course of the quarter, but also over the course of the year, the assignments continue to grow in complexity for the students. For example, the first assignment has the student find an image they have researched on the web and generate a citation for that image at the bottom of their page. Subsequent assignments, however, have them make inferential leaps about ideas, include in-text citations, consider formatting, and more, as well as, still generate that ever present MLA citation. And, I know, all of you English teachers out there, feel the pain of getting students to grasp the concept of providing the necessary information for their research. That's why these on-going assignments are so effective because the repetition alone over the course of time really drills the skills into their head. Haha.... I said, drills the skills...] Okay, back to the point, these assignments can, of course, be bought individually, but they are part of a larger packet. So, if you like what you see, you should check it out. The research is designed to correlate thematically with ideas about society and culture that you will encounter while covering your other material for the quarter. Whether it be vocabulary, informational texts, literature, poetry, etc..., these assignments are so awesome because they are so versatile!! The theme for this particular packet centers on and juxtaposes the ideas of Persecution and Revolution. I paired this research with my American Literature and Pre-Advanced Placement courses and used it to accompany my lessons on early American colonization, the Puritans, and the Revolutionary Period of American history. You can use these themes for any number of eras or epochs in time though. Take all or part of it and make it your own; whatever works best for you :)
