This interactive smartboard lesson begins with a mini lesson in what the difference in homonyms and homophones are according to the English dictionary of literary terms. It provides examples and then moves into practice slides with homonyms (multiple meaning words). Students will look at the multiple meanings of words just like a dictionary shows them. It gives the part of speech and then the meaning of the word for that part of speech. Next they will need to read a sentence that uses the homonym and decide which dictionary meaning was used in the sentence. All slides are self checking and linked for easy use. This lesson could easily be used as a teacher directed mini-lesson or as a small group activity or as independent practice in a center or station. Created with Smart Notebook 14. Nautical theme. Level of words is Intermediate - perfect for grades 3-6. May be challenging for grade 3, but appropriate if looking for a challenge for grade 3.
