Texas science TEKS 6.8A
I used this investigation with my 6th grade students to calculate speed using toys from my child's toy box. The only toys that are needed are plastic Hot Wheels tracks and toy race cars. Other equipment needed are commonly found in middle school science storage rooms.
This investigation includes a 4 page student handout (in black and white, Word document for ease of copying and editing). There is not a teacher handout included as the procedure is detailed in the student handout. Results and analysis/conclusion answers will vary depending on track setup and toy car used.
Skills required: prior knowledge about speed and scatter plot or line graphs
