Description

This resource has been revised as a TpT Digital Activity.

Use this revised and improved product to teach the prefixes: re-, pre-, in-, ex-, e-.

To provide multiple interaction with these prefixes, there are three sets of prefixed words with a variety of activities.

The worksheet, “What Does It Mean?” introduces five words using the designated

prefixes introduced earlier. Students are required to write their own definition for each word based on their knowledge of the prefix and root as well as context clues. Then students will find and record the dictionary definition and compare it to their own definition.

The “Word Pictures” activity reviews the words previously introduced. Students

draw pictures to illustrate the meaning of the words. The drawings do not need to be elaborate or works of art. Their purpose is to be a visual clue, or visual study guide, to the meaning of the words.

For “Example/Non-example”, students select phrases that would be associated with the prefixed word.

Students will go on a “Synonym Hunt” using dictionaries and thesauruses to find

synonyms for the prefixed words introduced in “What Does It Mean?”

Matching games provide more practice. In one game students match the prefixed words and their definitions while the other requires students to match the prefixed

words with sentences.

Finally, an assessment with prefixed words, not previously studied, requires students to answer questions based on the meaning of these words and the context in which they are used.
