This Word document is a summary of the plot of the 1954 American crime drama film directed by Elia Kazan in "fill in the blanks" format.
I have divided the film into seven parts. After viewing each section, students complete the cloze procedure. In this way, I'm ensuring that they understand the plot, and are getting a good sense of setting, character and theme.
A word bank to assist students is included at the end of each section.
This method works well with students of all abilities, but especially those who might find some elements of the movie difficult to understand. It provides scaffolding for students who are unable (or find it difficult) to write their own summaries of plot events.
This is also a good way to revise the film. Getting students to complete the cloze test is quicker than re-showing the movie.
Students enjoy this activity and many see it as fun. At the same time, it is an active learning task that makes them to work.
There are 7 pages for students to complete. The 5 page solution is also included.
Download the preview file to see the cloze test for Part 1. Even if you don't purchase this product, it will give you a useful activity with which to begin your study of this wonderful movie.
