This 33 word puzzle is a fun method of ensuring that students are familiar with the more difficult vocabulary words from the fourth chapter of the novel set in Poland during World War Two. Once I escaped from an orphanage in the mountains and I didn’t do any of the things you do in escape stories.
Words in the puzzle are.. advice, anxious, barracks, clogs, deserted, destination, disguise, encyclopedia, fumes, grateful, grit, hero, hungry, kneel, nun, puddle, receipt, remote, rifle, runaway, slither, snout, soldier, splotches, startle, stove, thirsty, trim, troll, trough, tunnel, whiz, and wistful.
Although students often see the puzzle format as a fun task, it is an active learning activity. It helps students with spelling and comprehension of new words.
A word bank is supplied to support students.
