In this Montessori -inspired cherry pie-themed addition activity, students use the movable tiles provided to make a number 1 greater than the number displayed. This activity is self-checking as all good Montessori-inspired materials should be. It contains 5 puzzles each with 10 addition problems in a fun cherry-pie themed array. Students know they have the answer correct when there are no tiles left on the board. This activity is the first in a series that I call "More Than Before".

PLEASE NOTE: This is just a straight PDF of my google slides. I am working on a more functional paper version of this activity. This is just a free sample for people who do not want to do a direct to google download of the same google slides activity I sell in my store.

Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
Relate counting to addition and subtraction (e.g., by counting on 2 to add 2).
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
