This one-pager, visual literary analysis activity can be used with any novel, short story, poem, or non-fiction text. This is a great end of unit activity for a class novel or for independent reading assessments.
The rubric is presented in a checklist format. Each item (which represents a standard they must apply), receives a check (full credit) check minus (partial credit), or an X (no credit).
Here is how I grade with this rubric: between the two paragraphs, there are 12 blanks. Plug that number into your EZ Grader (I use an app for that!). Two check minus marks = minus one. One X = minus one. Therefore, if the student receives two check minuses and one X, then they receive minus 2. Out of 12 blanks, that earns a grade of an 83. This method works for me because it is purely mathematical and produces an accurate grade based on the student's mastery of the standards.
