While grading the assignment, write the evidence in the column on the right that is showing a student has exceeded at least a portion of the standard.

This rubric can work for any story - fiction or nonfiction (biography, autobiography, et cetera). It also works well to support students on IEPs, to show growth and development, and to compare/contrast a student’s ability to comprehend different stories/different types of texts/different presentations of texts and material.
