Simplify your grading by using these one question quizzes! While sometimes longer tests are needed to measure student achievement, often times you can get a good picture of what students know with just one question.
Sheltered language strategies are teaching strategies that focus on teaching academic vocabulary at the same time as academic content. These types of strategies have been researched and shown to improve student learning, especially for ELLs These one question quizzes are written to measure student attainment of lesson objectives related to CCSS 8.EE.B.5. They are written to be used together with my content and language objectives, or they can also be used as a stand alone product. The questions require students to explain their answers using scaffolded sentence frames and target academic language development.
There are five different one question quizzes, each aligned to CCSS 8.EE.B.5. Answer keys are included.
Suggested ways to use
1.Use as a quick way to gauge student understanding of the targeted math standard.
2. Use for retakes if your school uses Standards Based Grading or asks you to allow multiple retake attempts for students.
3.If your school requires that you enter multiple grades in the grade book per week, use these one question quizzes as an easy way to satisfy that requirement.
4.Use as an exit ticket at the end of the class period.
5.Use as a formative assessment.
6.Use as a quick pre-test to determine students’ prior knowledge of a topic.
