September is a unique opportunity to support the idea of classroom and school community. A strong program for elementary schools to begin the school year is One School, One Prompt. It’s possible to carefully select a writing prompt, that can be addressed by all kinds of writers. Classroom teachers can choose from a range of graphic organizers to address the appropriate psychological development of their class. Very young writers can illustrate phrases or write descriptive sentences. Older writers can produce descriptive and/or persuasive essays. Truly skillful writers can write short narratives illustrating a point about the prompt. Public displays of these writings then further strengthens the community. All of that comes from One School, One Prompt.
Enclosed in this packet are graphic organizers and exemplars for grades k-5.
