In this simple game, students will organize a set of cards to show a complete solution to a one-step equation including inverse operations. There are 16 problems, each with 5 "cards" to make an 80 card sort. This activity is perfect for partner work, review, or a quick check in when students have worked to solve one-step equations. All solutions are positive integers.
Students sort the cards by first finding the complete equation. The students identify an inverse operation needed to isolate the variable and apply it to both sides of the equation, then find the variable (isolated with an = symbol) and the correct integer answer.
Teachers will have to cut the 4 page handout into individual cards for the matching game.
