This cut and paste puzzle includes one-step equations with whole numbers, fractions and decimals. No integer operation knowledge is needed so this is perfect for upper elementary/early middle school. Aligned to 6th grade common core math standards. Use in centers, as individual or group practice or even in interactive notebooks to practice solving one-step equations.
I have used many cut and paste activities throughout the years and noticed that some students struggle to get started. The first version includes a “starter corner” on the answer grid sheet to help students get started. Don’t want to give them a starter corner? Use the blank version on page 6 instead with the full 16 square version provided on page 7.
Would you rather print on cardstock and keep for multiple years rather than waste a lot of paper on cut and paste? Use the full 16 square version, print as many copies as you need on a variety of colored card stock, cut out and put in a clear plastic snack bag or envelope. I prefer to use different color cardstock so that if pieces get mixed up within groups its easy to sort out when it’s time to clean up.
Both versions for students to cut are mixed up, so no worries about giving away the answers. An answer key is provided on a separate slide for both versions. The shapes in the center of each square are added to help with making a quick visual assessment of student accuracy as you walk around the room. Questions? Email me at email@example.com.
