This is a delightful and informative book! This unit will not only provide your students with an understanding of our election process and history, but it will also give them an opportunity to practice their speaking and listening skills!
(In light of this year's election, you might choose to skip the voting for our next president of the USA. That part of the unit is only the ballots, the graphing, and the I Voted badges. Three pages! Everything else pertains either to the book materials or the debating materials.)
This unit includes:
*Topics for debating (dogs vs. cats, summer vs. winter)
*Debating Moderator form (if debating in front of an audience such as parents)
*Ballots for this presidential election
*I Voted Badges to be given out to students after they vote in class
*A graph to complete for the results of your class votes for president
*Picture frames (both colored and black and white) for the student to draw/color
a picture of themselves to go along with the writing project
*Writing forms (both colored and black and white) explaining why the student
would make a great president--this may be paired with the picture frame to
make a cute bulletin board display
*Comprehension Test on the book--28 questions, both true/false, fill in, multiple
choice (some with more than one answer) in two font sizes--larger for smaller
children and smaller for older students
*Voting Rights Timeline (cut and paste)
*Using an Index worksheet
I really think this product would be very helpful to you, as well as fun for the students. My students have always loved voting for our president in class and then comparing our vote to the country's vote!
Thanks for checking this product out!
