These 17 Interactive Writing Books are great for students for both improving skills in writing words with all the sounds they hear, and in reading sight words, and pattern books. Having students write these books with you, and then share in reading them when they have their own just makes their writing and reading experience all the more engaging. I have a provided a preview of one of the books. Included are books on fruits, Dr. Seuss, family, the park, the classroom, parties, the zoo, superheroes, and seasons and holidays. I have also included a pdf with instructions on how to use them.
This is how they work. Cut up the pages so that there is one picture and set of lines on each page. The title of each book has the pattern words that should be used and pre written by you. Then read the words with the students and have them share what the missing word or words should be based on the picture.Write the words the students come up with using all writing strategies and thinking aloud as you write. Once the book is complete have the class come up with a title and write the title and then written by Class …… on the bottom. (One of the pictures in each file is a cover picture and tells about all the pictures.) Read it once to the students when it is done. Let the students know you will be copying it, and each student will get a copy, then read it as a shared reading, and let the students color their own books.
