Teach your students how to search and find information in the World Book Online Encyclopedia. I used the "Kids" section of World Book to create these worksheets. There are 15 pages of worksheets and scavenger hunts. It includes a 2 page overview of World Book and how to use it. Next are specific worksheets that cover 3 different sections of the encyclopedia (animal comparison, maps, famous people). There are specific instructions on how to access each section to answer the questions. The rest of the pages ask students to look up certain key words in the encyclopedia and find the answers to the questions. Some of these worksheets may take more than one class period depending on how much time you have. The last few worksheets are shorter and only have 4 questions to answer. I have used them with my own students during their library time.
These can be used with students in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade. Middle school students could also complete the worksheets to give them extra practice. Younger students may need some extra guidance to complete all of the worksheets. Usually I allow students to work together in pairs to complete them.
These go along perfectly with my Online Encyclopedia Research Task Cards
