Description
Read, Think, Write and Learn! Reader response pages, writing prompts and activities that will enhance the reading experience of the book, Only One You, by Linda Kranz. This beautiful story tells an important message in simple language. Great book as a read aloud to teach citizenship and kindness. Perfect for a first day of school activity. The main idea is that we are all unique and have talents and each of us can change the world to be a better place. These pages may also be assigned for distance learning or school-at-home.
There are 32 pages to write, think and create about what makes us unique and how we understand the author's message of being unique. Writing pages include:
* What makes you unique?
* Color the fish different colors
* I am, I can and I have
* I know 3 times when it is good to be a listener
* Write a letter to my friend
* I love being myself. Here are things I like about me.
* My Beautiful Place
* When I did a kindness, this is what happened
* My Talents
* Quiet Time [think of a story about your plan to make the world better]
* Tell a Story Sign-Up sheets [tell your story to the class]
* Teacher Directions on Quiet Time/Tell Story
* Store away sunshine for cloudy days [What does this mean to you?]

* You are Unique. Write about your characteristics and talents?
* Write about something that got in your way. How did you move it?
* What are your wishes? Write 3.
*7 writing prompt pages about a few of the many inspirational quotes in the book
* Summary Page - Cloze Activity with key words and vocabulary in the story
*Color pages to post the important message of this book in your classroom. Talk about the message, color and display!
Choose the pages that you like or do them all! Bold, easy-to-read print. Children will show their writing development when completing these reader response pages. Many pages are a perfect springboard for class discussions about the author's message. This book might lead to an art project as the many fish are bright and colorful and I know the students could draw their fish to be unique which could be a wonderful start of the year bulletin board. " I am UNIQUE" and placing all the unique fish colored or painted by your students on the board which looks like the ocean. Great project and book to start the school year; or anytime you need to visit the theme of being kind and making the world a better place.
