Students will gain the concept of an onomatopoeia through the use of poetry. This file contains the poem, "Crack an Egg" by Denise Rodgers. Students go on an onomatopoeia hunt within the poem. They will they illustrate their words, and then think of their own examples of onomatopoeias. This can be completed as a grammar or fluency lesson in whole or small groups. It can also be used as a literacy center.
