This bingo game teaches and reinforces blending onset and rime. Six different bingo boards are included for small group instruction. In addition, there is a directions sheet with common core standards. Teacher cards for calling the segmented onset rimes are also included. The game focuses on phonological awareness rather than phonics skills because students are not looking at letters and words. Rather, it is a picture and listening to blend words based game. For example, the teacher calls out c-at and students cover the picture of the cat if it is on their game boards. This game is a great small group teacher or instructional assistant lead activity. It is also appropriate for a parent volunteer to play with groups of students. The activity provides engaging practice for all students in prekindergarten and kindergarten. It also serves as a fun tool for intervening with older students who struggle with phonological awareness skills. It is appropriate for special education and general education students.
