Product Description

The Great Fur Fair Culminating Event is an engaging role play activity ideal at the end of a unit for helping students synthesize their background knowledge about the interactions between these groups in New France. This unit has been created to help meet the REVISED 2018 Ontario Ministry of Education Social Studies Curriculum for Grade 5.

Each student is assigned a character that may have been present at the annual fur trading fair held in Montreal in 1682, and given a brief background history of his/her character. Students use the information sheets included in this resource to help them understand what a fur fair entailed, and decide what other characters they will meet at the fair would be most important for their characters to interact with. A recording sheet is included for students to record their role play plan as well as write a short reflection about what happened during the "fair". An assessment rubric is included as well.

This product includes:

- teacher's notes

- a two-page student information sheet

- student recording sheet

- 34 Character Descriptions

- Assessment Rubric
