PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This Communities in Canada, Past and Present: Part 2 – Settler Communities and the Environment resource is intended to support the 2013 Ontario Social Studies Curriculum for Grade 6. This particular FRENCH version was translated from the English version at the many requests of French Immersion teachers. Please note that all students texts and organizers are written in French, while teacher notes and lesson plans are in English. (On September 10, 2016, I uploaded a revised version of this Part 2 resource after the translator did some editing.)

In this unit students are supported as they explore how the features of a community are important to that community’s growth and identity, and to determine “cause and consequence” relationships between environment and identity. The inquiry skill focused upon in this mini-unit is on primary and secondary sources, and students are asked to think about when each type of evidence is most useful in gathering information.

This unit contains:
• Resource overview
• Key learning goal
• Detailed lesson plans
• Student-friendly texts
• Community Focus: Winnipeg and Attawapiskat, with “Close-Up” communities of Fort McMurray and Quebec City
• Citizenship Activity
• Graphic Organizers
• Assessment Tools
• Chapter Inquiry Task

PLEASE NOTE: This Part 2 resource is the 2nd in a series of 5 parts, which are available as a money-saving bundle, or in individual sections. Check the bundle out here:
