This Little Red Riding Hood fractured fairy tale by Colin McNaughton is so much fun. Your 2nd-3rd grade readers will love the misadventures with the wolf and enjoy comparing the story to Little Red. Included in the unit are a schema building activity, vocabulary, cause/effect relationships, making text to text connections/comparisons, post reading summarizing and questioning, and a letter writing response to reading. In addition to these reading resources, writing resources using the Six Traits were added on 12/29/13 for a fractured fairy tale writing assignment to make this a week long unit.
The unit would work well in a tutorial setting, with small groups, or as a mentor text for any of the skills mentioned.
