This resource is a 13 page fully editable word document of the handouts I use for a 7-day Op Art Unit with my Intro to Visual Arts class at a high school in the Bronx, New York City. I work in a district that doesn’t have Visual Arts classes in the middle schools, so this project could be easily adapted for a middle school level or even for higher skilled high school students. This is a great project for teaching students about shading with color, highlights, value, and giving the illusion of depth on a two dimensional surface. I also incorporate the color wheel into our Op Art Project and require the students to choose a color scheme to complete their project in. This packet also includes a rubric, quiz review sheet, quiz, and self reflection.
Materials required: Pencil, Eraser, colored pencils, 8.5x11 cardstock, rulers, circular objects to trace (ie: rolls of tape or cups)
