Product Description

This is an activity sheet that correlates with the Open Court Reading series. This activity sheet aligns with the spelling words found in Unit 3, week 5.

A variety of activities are included in this sheet.

  • Students are instructed to use direct address, subordinating, and correlative conjunctions in their sentences. This is an integration of the grammar standards that have been taught throughout the year.
  • Students are asked to sort words according to the Latin and Greek roots used in this spelling unit: bio, rupt, and aud
  • Students are asked to read a sentence including one of their spelling words and correctly insert commas and correct the spelling mistake. This reviews a grammar skill taught earlier in the year.
  • Students are asked to identify the relationship between a spelling word and another word as a synonym or antonym.
  • Finally, students are asked to unscramble a word jumble to spell a spelling word correctly.

This activity sheet may be given on Monday and required to be completed by the end of the week. It would also be appropriate for portions of it to be done in class or in partners. An additional idea would be to place this activity sheet in a literacy center. Overall, this is a great way to assess your students understanding of the phonetic skill, word meaning, and evaluate their language arts skills at the same time.

This spelling activity sheet is also a part of a larger activity bundle that includes everything I have created to go with this story. Please check out the other items I have created to round out your Open Court Instruction. Thank you for considering my products. Be on the lookout for other items related to the McGraw Hill, Open Court series. THANK YOU!

I would like to give credit to the 3 a.m. Teacher, Creative Clips, and Coffee Kids for the use of their digital graphics in my products!
