This beginning of the year activity will help you understand your students’ reading habits, preferences, and difficulties.
Students will create a graphic representation for themselves and fill their “open-mind” with information about what they like to read, what they find difficult about reading, and also information about what good readers do, based on the information found on this sheet.
As a beginning of the year activity, this allowed me to learn about my students as reader s, writers, and workers. Also, it created a cute display for our classroom.
Download includes directions/tips/samples for teacher, student handout with directions, rubric, and list of traits demonstrated by good readers.
Activity took my students 2 45 minute class periods -- and the results were fabulous!
