Mush! Students will enjoy hooking up the dogs on an open number line race to 25. Using yarn and clothes pins, students will attach the driver, or musher, to the beginning of the team. One by one, students will draw a random dog and determine where that dog must be attached to the number line. Students must use their knowledge of cardinality, and place value to discuss where their dog should be hooked up on the team. Students will be using greater than and less than vocabulary about the dogs already placed to discover the proper position and spacing of each new dog drawn. This activity can be modified by correctly placing several dogs to use as reference. Once the last dog has been correctly placed the team is sure to win! Enjoy.
