Product Description

Now is your chance to open your very own neighborhood shake shop business. In this project based learning unit PBL, students will learn the basics in economics and entrepreneurship. Students have an opportunity to learn about opening a business, create your own menu, create your own signature shake, advertise, and give back to the community.


This PBL unit incorporates 21st Century skills with challenging, engaging, and creative activities. There are lots of opportunities for differentiation, cooperative learning, and technology integration.

1. Learn about the history of shakes

2. Photos of a visit to to different shake/smoothie shops

3. Compare and Contrast shakes and smoothies

4. Take a survey to learn about favorite shakes/smoothies. Graph results

5. Create questions for business survey. Record results

6. Questions about starting an a shake shop

7. Cereal Box Shakes – write descriptive words for new shake creations.

8. Choose a name, logo and slogan for your business.

9. Design a store front (use my template or design your own)

10. Create your own business plan (company overview)

11. Using Pic Collage to design a flyer

12. Interview an owner or manager of a shake/smoothie shop.

13. Create a new shake and describe it.

14. Steps in making a shake (Students can arrange cards in order when writing steps.)

15. Calculate the nutritional value of your new creation

16. Design an flyer to advertise your shop. (This can be done on the computer or on a blank sheet of paper.) Make sure to include important info about your shop.

17. Design business cards

18. Create coupons for your sub shop.

19. Shake-a-Gram

20. Plan a menu for your shake shop. – Students can even create their own design after using this template as a rough draft. (I have a sample menu)
