Open and Closed Syllable Houses are an engaging, multisensory way for students to learn how to read open syllables and closed syllables.
A closed syllable has one vowel, followed by one or more consonants. In a closed syllable, the vowel makes its short sound. An open syllable has one vowel, and does not have any consonants that follow it. In an open syllable, the vowel makes its long sound.
Open and closed syllables are found in SMALL WORDS, such as: we, web, no, not, be, and bend. ALSO -- they are found in BIG WORDS, such as: robot (ro/bot), frozen (fro/zen), beyond (be/yond), and volcano (vol/ca/no).
These Open and Closed Syllable Houses bring this concept to life, by illustrating the differences between open and closed syllables. This set includes a total of 14 houses, which each generate only real, decodable words. Double-sided and single-sided print versions are included. Additionally, two posters are included (Open Syllable and Closed Syllable).
