Product Description
This Powerpoint and worksheet are meant to be used as part of an introduction to opera. The Powerpoint briefly explains the history of opera and its characteristics, and then provides links to 6 arias for use with the worksheet.

The worksheet activity involves students making inferences about what they are hearing and seeing--Can you tell where the opera is set based on the costumes and set dressings? What do you think the performer is singing about? etc.--as well as having them identify voice parts and describe vocal quality. After the aria links, the Powerpoint provides explanations of each aria so that students can compare their guesses to the piece's intentions.
