"Congratulations on your new job as a travel agent! It is your job to plan and schedule vacation plans for your clients! Each family has different wants and budgets, so you need to plan carefully! You must stay within the family’s budget!
Included in this package you will find the different options for vacation planning. Review the point system list for your client and try to come up with the best plan for them (the one that stays within their budget and collects the most points)! Make sure you plan for transportation to the port, the cruise itself, and any additional excursions."
Have students work independently or in groups to plan each client’s vacation all whilst staying under budget and trying to fulfill each client’s wants (as determined by their point system).
This could be a regular math time activity or an activity for students who finish their other work early. You could even create a large scoreboard to post in your classroom showing each student (or group)’s total number of points scored so far. An editable 8.5”x11” scoreboard will be included at the end of this package for you to customize if you’d like.
There are tons of possible answer combinations (which is why there is only one example answer key). Students are encouraged to try as many combinations as possible to try to find the vacation package that will earn the most points with their client! Students are challenged to make choices based on finances as well as consider opportunity cost.
This package includes 3 clients for your “travel agents” to work with. If you enjoy this activity, please check out my TPT store for additional expansions.
