This Differentiated Mystery Picture Color Activity: Operations with Complex Numbers is a fun worksheet that unlocks a secret picture once students complete the problems! Every correct answer provides a clue to color the grid and reveal a mystery image. There are more clues than there are problems, so students must solve ALL problems to determine which clues are the correct clues.

Space is provided for students to show work, because I like to see my students work :) and have opportunities for feedback.


-Use properties of the imaginary i to add, subtract, and multiply complex numbers.

-Simplify imaginary numbers.

-Use conjugates to find quotients of complex numbers.

Differentiation: The activity is tiered into 2 levels of difficulty. Perfect for the inclusive classroom! Both tiers of difficulty result in the same picture. The harder set has 24 problems and is marked with a star, the easier set has 18 problems and is marked with a smiley face.
