This pdf file contains a two-page guided notes outline (with both a student copy to fill in and a teacher key that is already filled in) and a two-page assignment over the content of the notes (answer key included), as well as two different one-page handouts on how to do fraction/decimal operations on a scientific calculator (one for the TI-30XIIS, and one for the TI-30XS MultiView).
The notes and assignment cover the following ideas:
- Adding fractions (& decimals)
- Subtracting fractions (& decimals)
- Multiplying fractions (& decimals)
- Dividing fractions (& decimals)
- Word problems involving rational number operations
- Problems involving both fractions and decimals
This lesson focuses on fraction operations, and decimal operations are primarily used in problems which use both fractions and decimals.
Before this lesson, students should have had an introduction to fractions & decimals. This would probably not make a good *introductory* lesson to fraction operations in general, as all operations are presented in the same lesson. However, it would make a good review of fraction (& decimal) operations, and/or a good introduction to either word problems and/or problems involving both fractions and decimals (both of which are included in this lesson).
