Opinion Writing - Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood, Three Little Pigs
A writing unit using The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood and other stories with the wolf character. Opinion writing, compare and contrast, characters and setting, art centers, class project (wolf trial or play)
Read several variations of The Three Little Pigs and Red Riding Hood.
As you read keep a chart of the books read and the adjectives that describe the wolves character. Begin a debate on if the wolf is really good or bad. Divide the class into two groups (Good wolf and bad wolf) do an interactive writing on their opinion of the wolf. Then have them do their own writing. (Use printables provided as needed)
As an extension, use example of court case to hold a trial for the wolf. Use writing and testimony from students. Invite parents or other school personnel. Ask the principal to be the judge. Use templates for pig and wolf art projects during centers to decorate the room for the trial.
