We have been working on an environmental essential question for the past 6 weeks in my 4th grade classroom. I was wanting to have the students write an opinion letter about a problem to the businesses or people responsible. That's how I came up with this graphic organizer.
In my room we will be using it to create a 5 paragraph letter of opinion.
Paragraph 1 (Introduction): State who you are, the problem, and why you care.
Paragraph 2 (Text Evidence): Using expository text from Scholastic News and other resources, students will find their "research" to support their opinion.
Paragraph 3 (Experience Evidence): Students will use what they have experienced themselves to support their opinion.
Paragraph 4 (Survey Evidence): Students will be creating a survey to ask the community (their classmates and others at school) their opinion on possible solutions. Students will include their survey findings in this section.
Paragraph 5 (Conclusion): Students will give reasons why the business or people responsible should care. This will be a summary of all the evidence presented.
As a side note, we have already read and conducted activities for all of the articles/ topics students will choose from. They will need to go back to their notes and the articles we have in our interactive journals to get their evidence.
