January Writing is here! Students love to tell what gifts they receive. Why not have them write about it!
This unit provides explicit instruction for students on how to write an opinion paper about their favorite gift. Mini-lessons, writing papers, and information pages are included!
I included an interactive notebook lesson about fact and opinion. If you haven't had much experience with interactive notebooks, then this is perfect for you to stick your toe in the water. It is a simple lesson with picture instructions on how to cut and fold the papers. Piece of cake!
An editable page is included in one of the mini lessons so you can personalize the level of sentences for your students.
Since I teach a multigrade class, the unit is differentiated to meet the needs of various levels of students. I truly understand having many leveled writers in one room! Just select the writing papers and mini lessons to meet the needs of your students.
Check out the preview. It has images of almost all the pages. Rest assured that the quality of the product is much better than the preview. I had to lower the image quality of the preview to keep it under the maximum file size limit. The product has all 300dpi images.
There is no prep needed for this unit! Just select the pages you want and print them for your students. I do suggest a writing folder or 3 ring binder. It helps keep the students organized. We use 3-ring binders so the students can easily take papers in and out.
It takes about 2 weeks for the younger students and about 1 week for the older ones to complete this unit. It really depends on how much time you spend on writing instruction each day. If the older finish early, then I have them write about their least favorite gift, or a second favorite.
I truly hope this unit makes your life a little easier. My students enjoy the lessons and appreciate the explicit approach.
