As we dove into our opinion writing unit, I noticed my students struggling to write strong paragraphs. We recently built up to writing multi-paragraph essays, but are not yet at a 5 paragraph essay. In this resource, we worked paragraph by paragraph to create a strong opinion piece that would persuade their reader to agree with them. Students were expected to read an informational text and form an opinion about that topic. Examples: Should students have cell phones? Do dogs or cats make better pets? By keeping the checklist right on the same paper, students can make sure that they are meeting all the requirements.
